When my brother Jake and I were young, dad had an old leather
shoulder bag filled with leather working tools; punches, stamps
x-acto knives, bits and ends of leather scraps, and a
Speedy-Stitcher. Jake and I sewed dozens of knife sheaths, axe masks,
bags for fire starting kits, moccasins, slings, not to mention
repairing tents, backpacks, and who knows what-else with dad’s
little Speedy-Stitcher. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn we went
through a mile of cord! We used up the roll of waxed cord that was in
the pouch, got and used up several small spools of waxed linen cord,
and put a heck of a hurting on the big spool of artificial sinew. We
used it just as an awl even when we were using the double needle
stitch. This tool did everything we asked it to, and more. I have
admired its well designed simplicity since, and when I stumbled
across them when looking for inventory for Nessmuk’s, I was elated!
I was very pleased that they are still made in the U.S.A. and their
packaging has a charming vintage look that goes quite well with our
aesthetic!
Comes with 1 curved needle, 1 straight needle, and a nobbin wound with 14 yards of waxed thread.
Make sure to stock
up on some spare spools of cord, and needles to bolster the supply
that comes with the awl.
